MISSION & OUT REACH UPDATE -- Jennifer Nightingale In the short time I've been serving as a mission committee member I've learned and redefined what doing "missions" work is for me. You don't need to travel far or donate huge sums of money. Responding to another's need when presented to you…mission is giving of yourself. During the last several meetings the missions committee has posed the following question, "Why participate in missions work?" The following are a few of the various responses: Service is written on my heart. I am called to service. Mission is my testimony for why I was put on this earth. Mission work is one of the ways to walk in the steps of Jesus. There are great needs in the world and in our communities. When I participate in mission I connect with people and build relationships that I really need and value. "Walking the talk" and participating in mission is a good way to grow our church. For me missions are a way to make a real difference in the world. We are very blessed and we have a responsibility to share our fortune with others. Going to Guatemala with our mission team was a high point in my life. It showed me what is possible in sharing God's love and opened my heart to do more. In the coming months the missions committee will be presenting opportunities for everyone to become "missionaries". Recently, Frank and Paula Conner have been made aware of specific needs at Sheperd's House. In response, a box will be placed in the narthex for donations of the following much needed items: sugar, napkins, paper towels, laundry soap, fabric softener, coffee, dishwasher soap, coffee creamer, stir sticks, socks, deodorant, gloves, razors, shaving cream, vitamins, industrial sized cans of vegetables (Costco). We are all so blessed to be among a church family that is generous in their hospitality, time, goods, and faith. I'm looking forward to learning about everyone's "missionary" efforts here at BFUMC.
