Decisions

Most decisions relating to the ministry and operation of the church are made by the church council that meets on the second Thursday of Jan., March, May, July, September, and November at 7:00 pm. The church council is comprised of the chairs of the church’s committees and task forces (listed below), the lay leaders of the church, and elected at-large members of the council.

Some decisions are required to be made by charge conference action. A meeting of a charge conference is scheduled with the Central district superintendent who presides over the meeting, or who assigns an active elder to preside in his absence. Decisions made by the charge conference generally relate to the sell or purchase of property, the construction of new buildings, the endorsement of candidates for ordained ministry, the election of church officers, the removal of members, and the compensation of clergy.

Finally, some decisions are made by annual conference or general conference action. These decisions are recorded in the Book of Discipline and in the Journal of the Annual Conference. The current edition of the Book of Discipline and the Conference Journal are available in the church office.
